WELCOME TO THE SUNSHINE ROOM
TODDLER PROGRAM !
Dear Parents,
I would like to take time to introduce myself to you. My name is Melissa Blood and I live in Amesbury with my husband Mark and my sons Kyle and Alex. I have been teaching since 1995 and have found much enjoyment learning and creating new ideas with children.
It is a pleasure to have an opportunity to work with your child throughout the day. I have many creative ideas for your child to learn and grow in the toddler room. One of my roles as a teacher is to ensure that your child is safe and feels comfortable at all times. We will be working on gaining independence and exploring fine motor, gross motor and sensory skills through everyday activities.
Hi! My name is Maria Carvalho and I am thrilled to start my second school year here at ChildsPlace as a Co Lead Teacher in the Sunshine Room. I am a full time student at Hesser College in Manchester, NH and am working to complete as Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education by May of 2010. I have had the opportunity to work Melissa to create a variety of fun filled stimulating curriculum units that will focus on all areas of child development. I look forward to getting to know your family in the months to come. Please do not hesitate to communicate any questions or concerns you may have throughout the school year. Welcome to the Sunshine Room!
During circle time children will be learning numbers, letters, shapes and colors as well as identifying self-help skills. We will introduce our new friend “Mary” who is a paper doll that will be dressing with clothing that corresponds to the color(s) and shape(s) of the month. Another part of circle time is having the children learn songs. They will be using hand movements to go along with the song and learning to recognize the pictures and books that correspond to the songs in our music box.
We look forward to a great year working with your child and please feel free to come to us with any questions, concerns or suggestions you may have. Thank You!
Sincerely,
Melissa and Maria
CIRCLE TIME
Circle time is a joyful time for toddlers. The children develop language, memory and social skills while exploring new concepts. Story time is enjoyed while friends sit together listening to stories that focus on the theme being highlighted. Flannel board time is a favorite - especially when it is the child’s turn to put the flannel piece on the scoreboard! Songs and fingerplays are shared while children join in to sing along and follow the teacher’s fingerplays and actions. Participation is encouraged during circle time and repetition of its components helps children foster language and memory skills.
ACTIVITY TIME
Weekly themes are reinforced through hands on projects during activity time each day. Each project is designed to broaden the children’s base of experience with the understanding of the weekly theme. New concepts and activities are introduced with an emphasis on the development of listening skills, fine and gross motor skills, creativity, eye-hand coordination and social skills. Science, nature, math, reading, social studies and multicultural concepts are incorporated into our activities.
Teachers and children gather in small groups where they explore and create with a variety of materials. Children are encouraged to let their self expression and creativity shine! Bulletin boards around the classroom display unique colorful activities that the children have created. Children are excited and proud to show family and friends their masterpieces on the walls each week! Be it painting, cutting, gluing, coloring, building, cooking or designing - you can be assured that activity time is always new, exciting and educational!
